Genetics

The past 20 years has seen tremendous development of the growth and feed conversion by well bred cattle, while still retaining their low birth weight calving attributes. With continuous advancements in breeding, being at the very forefront of these genetics remains critical to ensure that the progeny of our cattle live up to our expectations.

The commercial pressures all producers face is to maximise the carcass qualities on grass. The high cost of additives like grain mean that genetic improvements in our breeding program continuously aim to produce more from less.

In the 2015 season, the ongoing genetic investment over the past decade was demonstrated unequivocally. Our top steers in November came in at 480kgs while still on their mothers, having been born in February and March of that year. In fact our top pen of animals consistently averaged over 420kgs at 9-10 months of age with only pasture feed.
